Inner Love Unit 4

 Inner Love

I would describe this week’s practice as a little painful all I could think of was people I had lost. I had time to think of people I love some that I have not seen in awhile. This exercise was about “inner love” feelings that are associated with love and feelings that are associated with hurt. Recommending it to someone else would be hard because of the pain that I felt.

The concept of a mental workout is to exercise your mind. By helping your mind be and stay healthy so it can keep the rest of your body healthy and balance. Taking time to meditate and focusing on our mind, body and spirit by opening our minds. This will in turn create inner peace and the balance we need to attain human flourishing. A mind can be trained just as the body can; we train our bodies for marathons we need to train our minds for healthy balanced life. Dacher discusses how mental workouts should be more than just relaxation it should be used to expand our consciousness to become more in tune with our minds healing capacities.

  1. Hi Stacia,

I also had a difficult time with this exercise because I too lost someone not to long ago and this person was very close to me. So immediately I thought of them and it made me feel more sad then anything else. I tried to think of other people and I was able to but overall had a hard time connecting with the exercise. Hopefully our next exercise to a higher consciousness will be an easier one to connect with. :-)

    1. I am sorry for your loss too. We need to keep our heads up and take it all in, learn how to manage these feelings.

  2. Hi Stacia,
I'm sorry to hear that this exercise brought back some pain of your recent loss, that is always hard to deal with. I just wanted to point out that, although its very difficult, sometimes it is good to allow yourself to mourn and feel the pain in order to work through it. Hopefully this next week will bring something more uplifting your way :)

  3. I tried to take a different route this week in focusing on loving kindness everday to change others days but I am in the same boat with a tough exercise because we just recently lost the kids Papa Bob and it has been really tough for us. The kids are young and I go to the day that we had to tell them and the look on my sons face as he tried to process the information and then burst out into tears. Actually I am crying as I write this. I hope that you can be uplighted this week and put a smile on your face!

    1. Loss is so hard and I know you are suppose to grieve. For some strange reason I have not done that yet. This exercise has made me aware of that. We will be okay and get through it coming out of it better and more balanced.

  4. Stacia,

This exercise was hard for me to, because all I thought about was people who I knew who was sick or people who I lost that meant so much to me. I think that after the exercise I was too sad, then too relaxed. I thought the exercise would make me relax, but I actually was really upset afterwards. I don't think I would recommend it to others to. Meditation always relaxes my mind. I think more people should meditate. It makes you feel more relaxed. I think it is hard to train the mind. I think it is a lot easier to train the body, but the mind needs a lot of training and a lot of practice. When we train our minds I also think we can expand it and take in more knowledge.

    1. I am hopeful that the exercise will bring better results next time I think it is important to understand how this exercise works being that pain from loss is so dramatic and many need to learn how to accept the pain.

  5. Hi Stacia,
I am very sorry to learn of the tragic loss of your loved ones, and for the rest of our classmates that share in such a sad life situation. In the past year I have also lost people I was very close with, to both age and tragedy but this exercise brought no sadness to me. In fact It had the opposite effect on me and brought on memories of the joy and happiness that I shared with my lost loved ones, I have used the exercise (or my version of it) a few more times since my initial attempt to reflect and remember the love I shared with them. I wish it had the same uplifting affect on you, I’m sorry it didn’t.
